Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy at Reflecting Health goes beyond the treatment of muscles, joints, and injuries.

Physiotherapy with a Brain-Based Approach

This work is grounded in physiotherapy, but extends beyond traditional approaches.

My primary focus is on how the brain develops, integrates, and coordinates the body – through primitive reflex assessment and integration, and hemispheric balancing work.

I work with both adults and children, often supporting challenges related to focus, learning, coordination, behaviour, and regulation – including presentations such as ADHD, autism, and dyslexia.

Rather than focusing only on muscles, joints, and pain, we look at how the brain and nervous system are shaping movement, posture, energy, and overall function.

For some people, this may include addressing pain, strength, or mobility.
But more often, the focus is on how the body is being driven and organised by the brain.

This approach supports both physical and mental health by integrating movement, sensory input, and nervous system regulation – helping you feel more connected, more regulated, and more in control of your body.

Brain Balancing

Brain Balancing is an advanced, neuroscience-informed area of physiotherapy practice focused on nervous system function and brain–body integration.

Using principles from the Melillo Method, this approach recognises that imbalances between the left and right hemispheres of the brain can influence both physical and mental health. These imbalances may contribute to difficulties with focus, emotional regulation, fatigue, coordination, posture, stress tolerance, and persistent pain.

As physiotherapists, we assess how hemispheric imbalance is expressed through movement, posture, reflexes, and sensory processing. Intervention involves targeted movement and sensory-based exercises designed to stimulate and integrate underactive brain regions.

This form of physiotherapy supports mental health through the body, working with the nervous system rather than focusing solely on cognition or talk-based strategies.

Primitive Reflex Integration

Primitive Reflex Integration is a nervous system-focused approach within physiotherapy that requires additional training and education.

Primitive reflexes are automatic movement patterns present early in life. When these reflexes remain active beyond infancy, they can interfere with posture, balance, coordination, stress regulation, attention, and emotional control – even in adulthood.

Through physiotherapy assessment and treatment, we identify retained reflex patterns and use gentle, structured movement to support integration over time.

This approach is particularly relevant for people experiencing ongoing anxiety, fatigue, restlessness, sensory sensitivity, or a sense that their body is constantly in a heightened state of alert.

Musculoskeletal Injuries and Pain

We assess and treat a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions, including:

  • neck and back pain
  • joint injuries and strains
  • postural pain
  • overuse and repetitive strain injuries
  • persistent or recurrent pain

Rather than focusing only on the site of pain, our physiotherapy approach considers movement patterns, load tolerance, nervous system sensitivity, and recovery capacity.

Treatment may include hands-on therapy, targeted exercise, graded return to activity, and education to support both recovery and long-term resilience.

Physiotherapy at Reflecting Health is collaborative and individualised.
You are not a passive recipient of treatment – your nervous system and body adapt through active participation.

Our role is to assess, guide, and support.
Your role is to engage in the process, apply what you learn, and allow change to occur over time.

Our physiotherapy services support mental health through movement, nervous system regulation, and brain-based rehabilitation. This work is not a replacement for psychological or psychiatric care. Where appropriate, we encourage collaborative care with GPs, psychologists, or other health professionals.
